project created while at Grande Circular Design
context
The publication, 'Xingu, o rio que pulsa em nós' or 'Xingu, the river that flows through us', presents the hydrography of the Xingu River both before and after the installation of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Dam.
It illustrates the changes which have affected the entire area, the fauna and flora, well as the indigenous tribes living near the dam region.
project decisions
It was requested by the client to make in a magazine format to keep it easy to read through. Also, the publication had many maps, graphs and tables that were solicited to be intelligible and simple.
The fonts used in throughout the project were Latina Sans, for titles and highlights, and Marco Pro, for continuous text. Besides that, the colors were chosen to create contrast and to represent the local biome. All of the illustrations are recolored adaptations of the animation created by an animation studio.
maps
As said before, one of the challenges of this project was to redrawn the maps in the publication. The original maps that were given had unecessary visual information that only made it difficult to understand it's content.
Thus, the redesgin solution was to give a generous space in the page, easy to read information subtitles, and icons that indicated what was essential to the map comprehension.

graphs
One of the interests of the publication was to report the collected numbers throughout the analyses of the region. The hydrograms graph present the volume of the water and rain at the season and how it affects it's fauna and fishing activities, essential for the indigenous people.
